Job Description

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Lab Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our San Diego validation and test laboratory. This is a mid-level exempt position that combines technical acumen with strong operational and organizational capabilities. The ideal candidate will serve as the backbone of the lab — ensuring equipment is maintained, assets are properly managed, vendors are effectively coordinated, and all lab activities run smoothly in support of the engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities

    • Oversee all aspects of daily lab operations, ensuring the facility runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards.
    • Manage lab asset acquisition from end to end — including identifying equipment needs, obtaining quotes, coordinating procurement through SAP or equivalent ERP systems, and tracking asset lifecycle.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues, coordinating with building management, contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve problems promptly.
    • Maintain and manage lab inventory — including components, consumables, tooling, and spare parts — ensuring accurate records and timely replenishment.
    • Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers for equipment purchases, service agreements, calibration, and repair.
    • Support validation and test engineers in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to the Advantest 93K ATE platform and Chroma handler, including liaising with equipment vendors for escalated support.
    • Own the equipment calibration program — scheduling calibrations, maintaining calibration records, and ensuring all instruments are traceable and compliant.
    • Lead and maintain ISO certification activities for the lab, including documentation, internal audits, corrective actions, and coordination with external auditors.
    • Manage software license procurement, renewal, and transfers for lab tools such as JMP, MATLAB, and other engineering applications.
    • Support sample preparation and shipment activities, including coordination of part baking, packaging, labeling, and logistics for customer and internal shipments.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with validation engineers, product engineering, operations, and sales teams to support NPI activities and customer deliverables.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase lab efficiency, reduce equipment downtime, and improve overall throughput.
    • Maintain accurate and organized lab records, including equipment logs, calibration certificates, vendor contracts, and operational documentation.

Requirements

    • Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
    • 3–7 years of experience in a semiconductor, electronics, or RF lab environment, with hands-on involvement in lab operations or engineering support roles.
    • Demonstrated experience managing lab assets, equipment procurement, and vendor relationships.
    • Familiarity with ATE platforms; experience with the Advantest 93K and/or Chroma handlers is strongly preferred.
    • Working knowledge of RF and electronic test equipment including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
    • Experience with ISO certification processes, including documentation and audit preparation.
    • Proficiency with ERP or procurement systems such as SAP for purchase orders and asset tracking.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
